6 Ways To Reenergize When You Feel Like Giving Up

Whether it’s your journey toward living more simply, practicing better exercising habits, or working on a business venture, it can get hard. We often feel like giving up. But there are ways to reenergize.

Things ebb and flow. It’s part of nature. The sun rises and the sun sets. The tide comes in and the tide goes out. Seasons come and go. I don’t think humans are any different. We’re not meant to work 24/7 toward our goals. And we’re bound to burnout when we work too hard.

Here’s the good news. There are ways to get motivated to stay on track. And sometimes they include intentionally going temporarily off track.

How To Reenergize When You Want To Quit

  1. Take a break: Don’t push too hard. Steven Pressfield talks about resistance in his book, The War Of Art. I agree that we are constantly up against resistance. But I also think that pushing too hard increases that resistance. It’s okay to take a break.
  2. Do something related: When I feel like I’m at a dead end, I often switch gears into something different, but related. If I burnout on writing blog posts, I take a break and work on a book, or a course. Or I just make some Hip Diggs’ memes for Facebook. It’s something different, but it keeps the focus on the larger project.
  3. Do something unrelated: Other times, I use a different strategy. I’ll step away from a project completely for a short period. This works well with Hip Diggs because I preschedule content. That gives me the option of stepping away for a few weeks. I can focus on writing music, landscaping, or even taking up a new hobby.
  4. Know your limits: Sometimes we attempt to do things that are beyond our capability. I’d give up biking if I pushed myself to ride 100 miles a day. I’d give up this blog if I insisted on making $10,000 in profit this year. I know my limits and I accept them. But when I reenergize I can push myself to the next level.
  5. Meditate: Meditate on the thing you’re considering giving up. Think about it. Do some mental problem solving. What is working? Expand on that. What isn’t working? Why? A little mindfulness goes a long way.
  6. Get Away: Take short trip, or even a vacation. Put yourself in a completely different environment. You might be surprised with the results.

Are You Ready To Reenergize?

It’s not hard to do. In fact, sometimes reenergizing is fun. Because sometimes having fun is exactly what you need. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you feel like giving up. But don’t give up either. Just try one or more of these 6 methods to reenergize.

  • Take a break
  • Do something related
  • Do something unrelated
  • Know your limits
  • Meditate
  • Get Away
